Bí linn agus foghlaim cuid de na hamhráin chaillte na teorann. Sa cheardlann 3 uair seo, beidh deis agat roinnt amhrán a fhoghlaim go díreach ó na ceoltóirí áitiúla.

Come and learn some of the lost songs of the border. In this 3 hour workshop, you will have the opportunity to learn direct from the local singers.

Based on the published and ongoing research of Dr. Gearóid Trimble and the singers themselves, you will have the opportunity to learn a new collection of lesser-known songs in Irish. This collection of songs are folk songs of a border people, based largely on local themes and events linked to County Louth. This is a fun and interactive song workshop open to all.

Highlights:

  • Set in the historical surroundings of the Oriel Centre, Dundalk Gaol;
  • Learn some lesser known gaelic songs, based on local themes - songs of the locality, songs of the local people;
  • Learn about the research which informed each song; the informant, the collector, the source of the air;
  • Learn about how each song links to the border county of Louth;
  • Hear about the process of how the lyric of the song were pieced together with the air;
  • Listen to a performance of the song in whole and learn with the help of learning aids including a song sheet with music notation and lyric;
  • Free Workshop - Ceardlann saor in aisce;
  • Tea & Coffee provided - Tae agus caife san áireamh

This is a further song workshop in a series of workshops entitled The Lost Songs of the Border. This song workshop is part of a wider project under the Department of Tourism, Culture, Arts, Gaeltacht, Sport and Media's 2021 Co-operation with Northern Ireland Funding Scheme which proposes to reinvigorate and showcase the unique and long-forgotten songs of the greater Crossmaglen district, north Louth and south Monaghan area, dating from the early 20th century, some of which haven’t been heard sung in over 100 years.
