The Gaol Sessions - Tara Breen & Padraig Rynne


Tara Breen, a highly talented multi-instrumentalist from Co. Clare, has won All Ireland titles on fiddle in every age category over the years, including the All Ireland Senior Fiddle Title in 2012. Tara is also an All Ireland winner on the flute and saxophone. She has won 11 solo All Ireland Fleadh titles and 10 group All Ireland Fleadh titles. In 2011 she was chosen to play at Dublin Castle for Queen Elizabeth during her Statevisit to Ireland. Tara studied music and Irish in University College Cork and received an honour in BAMus and Bmus. She was selected by Donal Lunny for the T.V. series,‘Lorg Lunny’, which resulted in the formation of the band Ciorras and they recorded their debut album entitled ‘Ciorras’ in 2010. From there she went on to join the Galician piperCarlos Núñez who she still travels extensively with. In 2014 Tara recorded an album with Conor Moriarty and Stephen Rooney, titled The Trí Tones and this album was awarded the title Album of The Year from Tradconnect. In 2014, she joined six-time Grammy award winning band, The Chieftains for their North American tour, and currently plays with them at various venues both at home and abroad. Tara joined the legendary band, Stockton’s Wing in 2015 and their live album is soon due for release. She joined Heartbeat of Home in 2018 and they toured China andGermany for 6 months, finishing with a 6 week run in The West End. In 2019, Tara recorded an album with Padraig Rynne, Conor Crimmins and Elaine Hogan entitled Avalla and she has recently recorded a duet album with concertinaplayer Padraig Rynne. This album also includes guests like Dónal Lunny and Jim Murray.

Pádraig Rynne is a virtuoso musician, prolific composer and is regarded as one of the finest concertina players in Irish music today.He has been described as “one of the freshest sounds in Irish music” by fRoots magazine. With an MA in Music technology and a passion for experimenting with diverse genres, Padraig is recognised for his refreshing explorations into the Irish Tradition and beyond. His band work includes, founder and former member of Guidewires and groundbreaking World/Jazz band NOTIFY. Rynne has curated a number of high profile ensembles and tours including Irish Arts Council funded projects Dán, Atlantic I/O and NOTIFY + Pauline Scanlon. He currently tours with a number of collaborative outfits, Atlantic Arc - a combination of Irish and Scottish musicians and Triad (with Dónal Lunny and Sylvain Barou). Pádraig has featured on over thirty albums and has made many high profile TV appearances. He was a featured musician on the Soundtrack to the recent successful BBC movie - “After the dance”. Pádraig works very regularly with other artists and recently was commissioned to write the music for the opening of TG4 XX with award winning electronic band Aeons. As a sound designer, Pádraig has lent his music and unique creative soundscapes to many albums and productions.
